REFUSNIK TOUR: Antimilitaristi Israeliani

Molti giovani israeliani non hanno mai visitato una città palestinese o parlato con un palestinese. - dice Omri Evron - Molti non sanno come si vive dall'altra parte del confine. Ma io ci sono stato e so quanto i palestinesi soffrono a causa dell'occupazione.
Ecco perchè non diventerò un soldato nell'IDF (Israelian Defense Force).
Semplicemente non posso.
Omri è uno degli oltre 250 studenti liceali israeliani che si sono organizzati e hanno firmato una lettera aperta nella quale hanno dichiarato di rifiutare "di prendere parte alla politica di occupazione e di oppressione" contro i palestinesi.

In un paese dove il servizio militare è obbligatorio per tutti e dove non viene riconosciuta l'opzione dell'obiezione di coscienza, coloro che rifiutano di arruolarsi, chiamati refusnisk sono di solito processati e rischiano il carcere o sono umiliati e riformati in quanto, arbitrariamente considerati mentalmente disabili.
Solo quelli che pretendono il riconoscimento delle ragioni politiche del loro rifiuto, sono processati senza soluzione di continuità sino al loro cedimento.

Con due di questi ragazzi stiamo organizzando un tour in italia, si chiamano Lior Volinich e Omri Evron, entrambi di 19 anni; quest'ultimo ha appena scontato il primo mese di carcere (compreso un periodo in isolamento) e nella sua lettera di rifiuto scrive: "Il mio rifiuto serva a portare l'attenzione sul fatto che non tutti sono pronti a farsi indottrinare e cooptare per cause nazionaliste e razziste".
A Lior, invece, è stato riconosciuto lo status di "Obietore per motivi politici" ed è stato riformato perchè "contrario all'occupazione dei territori" e non perchè "disabile mentale".
E' la prima volta che succede nella storia d'israele.

In europa ci si interessa poco di questa resistenza interna con forme di lotta diretta e non violenta, eppure, non c'è un'opposizione più pertinente di questo rifiuto, dato che Israele si sostiene da sempre sull'esercito e solo grazie all'esercito, cioè alla politica di forza, per imporre le sue "soluzioni" contro il popolo palestinese.
Nel febbraio-marzo 2007 questi due ragazzi saranno in giro per l'italia in un tour.
Vogliamo portarli nei luoghi pubblici che riusciremo a "conquistare" (comprese le scuole) per confrontarci con loro e confrontare la loro esperienza anche con quella di tanti loro coetanei.

Vogliamo dare voce al loro rifiuto di servire l'esercito occupante, alle loro lotte quotidiane, anche insieme ai palestinesi in percorsi solidali, fuori da qualsiasi dirigismo e qualsiasi illusione che governanti e uomini in divisa possano portare pace, cooperazione e mutuo appoggio, concreto e reale, tra le persone e le comunità.

Non vogliamo dimenticare la pratica dell'antimilitarismo e dell'azione diretta anche adesso, che in italia, il servizio di leva non è più obbligatorio, anche e soprattutto mentre continuano le missioni militari "di pace" e i cori del pacifismo peloso e di moda sono silenti.

"Many young israelis have never visited a Palestinian town or spoken to a Palestinian - says Omri Evron. Many don't know how life is on the other side of the border. But I've been there and I know how much the Palestinian people suffer because of the occupation. This is why I'm not becoming an IDF (Israelian Defence Force) soldier, simply because I can't."
Omri is one of the more than 250 israeli high school students who organized themseves and signed a letter declaring to refuse "taking part to the policy of occupation and oppresion against Palestinians."

In Israel military service is compulsory for everybody and conscientious objection is not recognized: those refusing enlisting, called "Refusnik", must normally face a trial and run the risk of being imprisonned; otherwise thay are humiliated and rejected as they're arbitrarily considered mentally ill. Those who reclaim the acknowledment of the refusal's political reasons under go continuous trials till they give in.

We are organizing a tour with two of these boys: Lior Volinich and Omri Evron, both 19. Omri has just served a month jail (comprising a period of solitary confinement). In his letter of refusal he writes: "I hope my refusal helps highlight that not everybody is ready to be indoctrinated and used for nationalist and racist causes".
Lior has been recognized the status of "conscience objector" and has been rejected by the army because "opposition to the occupation of the territories, and not because he is mentally ill". It is the first time such a thing happens in Israeli history.

People in Europe are not very much interested in this form of resistance which is carried out in a non violent way, but there is no more pertinent opposition than this refusal since in Israel the army has always played a very important role and only thanks to the army, that is to its policy of violence, has been able to impose its "solutions" to the Palestinian people.
Between february and march 2007, these two young men will be touring Italy. We want to bring them to those public places we'll be able to "conquer" (comprinsing mostly of schools) in order to meet them and compare theirs experience to that of many youngsters their age.

We want to give voice to their refusal of serving the occupying army, to their everyday struggles, to those battles they bring about together with Palestinians, free of any leadership and without the illusion that goverments or men in uniform could bring peace, real cooperation and support among people and communities.

We don't want to forget the antimilitarist practice and that of direct action, at a moment when conscription in Italy is not compulsoy any more, but while "peace- keeping" missions are still going on and the choirs of hypocrite fashionable pasifism are silent.
