CONGO: VA STORTO RAID USA CONTRO RIBELLI, E’ UN MASSACRO

L’esercito Usa ha
collaborato con le truppe ugandesi a un piano armato contro i ribelli dell’LRA, ma qualcosa e’ andato storto; e le milizie, messe in fuga, hanno seminato
l’orrore nelle citta’ e i villaggi incontrati sul loro tragitto: massacri,
incendi, violenze sui civili. Tragico il bilancio finale: oltre 900 i civili
trucidati. La recente operazione contro le milizie ribelli dell’Esercito di
Resistenza del Signore, che si annida nel parco nazionale congolese, e’ un
retroscena rivelato dal ‘New York Times’.
E’ noto che gli Stati Uniti
addestrino da alcuni anni le truppe ugandesi; ma il ruolo effettivo del
Pentagono non era mai emerso chiaramente. Il drammatico episodio ora rivelato
e’ il primo piano di collaborazione dettagliata di cui si ha notizia: fonti
militari anonime americane parlano di un team di 17 tra consiglieri e analisti
dell’Africa Command del Pentagono che lavora con gli ufficiali ugandesi
fornendo loro foto satellitari, notizie di intelligence e cospicui
finanziamenti (un milione di dollari). Nessun militare americano e’ stato
direttamente coinvolto nell’operazione, ma i locali e le organizzazioni a
tutela dei diritti civili locali denunciano adesso che le truppe ugandesi e
congolesi hanno fatto poco o nulla per proteggere gli abitanti inermi dalla
violenza dei miliziani dell’Lra, noti per le loro brutali rappresaglie. I
militari non hanno chiuso le strade di fuga ne’ blindato le citta’ sul cammino
dei ribelli: il risultato e’ stato un massacro di civili, in cui sono rimasti
coinvolti anche bambini piccolissimi. “L’operazione e’ stata mal programmata e
peggio eseguita”, e’ la denuncia di Julia Spiegel, una ricercatrice dell’Enough
Project. Gli americani ammettono che l’operazione non e’ andata come previsto e
che i civili sono stati lasciati al loro destino: “Abbiamo fornito loro opzioni
e alternative, ma le loro scelte sono loro. In fondo, non era una nostra
operazione”, ha detto uno dei militari Usa coinvolti. L’Esercito di Resistenza
del Signore e’ adesso allo sbando, con torme che si spostano di villaggio in
villaggio, apparentemente senza incontrare ostacoli e che si lasciano alle
spalle scie di cadaveri e baracche bruciacchiate. Secondo fonti locali, sono
anche stati catturati centinaia di bambini, poi spinti nella boscaglie, ultime
reclute innocenti di un esercito di schiavi.
