Il culmine si tocca nel 2009, periodo in cui comincia una serie di arresti arbitrari verso specifici gruppi di compagni, accusati di reati, chiaramente inventati, ma per cui vengono mantenuti per mesi in stati d’arresto.

Uno dei casi emblematici di questa “nuova” onda repressiva è quello di Jorge Mario González García, arrestato prima della manifestazione del 2 ottobre 2013 su un autobus e mantenuto ingiustamente in arresto con l’accusa di attacco alla pace pubblica. La giudice inizialmente ha negato a Mario la libertà su cauzione, considerandolo un individuo inaffidabile che sarebbe potuto scappare. Mario inizia un sciopero della fame che dura 56 giorni e che decide di interrompere solo per gravi complicazioni alla salute. Successivamente è sentenziato a 5 anni e 9 mesi contro questa condanna ingiusta è stato fatto ricorso.
