The Pentagon has announced that "shock and awe" will be the strategy for Gulf War II, dropping 10 times the amount of bombs and munitions used in Gulf War I. And 10 times the amount of depleted uranium?

Today more than 400 tons of depleted uranium dust and fragments are left on the battlefields of Iraq, 40 tons in Kosovo and Serbia, and 1000 tons in Afghanistan. How much came home in the bodies of our veterans like Doug Rokke -- slowly killing, mutilating and maiming them?

How much is killing, mutilating and maiming the people of Iraq, the children of Iraq, and the unborn future of the Iraqi people? And now we're going back to make it 10 times worse? What about our soldiers this time?

Radiation respects no borders. Carried downwind during bombing in Kosovo, it was detected in air monitors as far away as Hungary and Greece. Levels in the air change with the seasons in Kuwait. Depleted uranium is forever. The half-life is 4.5 billion years.

It decays to isotopes much more radioactive than uranium, like radon. Depleted uranium keeps giving... and it keeps killing. It's the perfect weapon for the Pentagon to kill people and destroy things. The trouble is, you can't clean it up... over time it makes survival of life impossible. It transforms into an omnicidal war against the earth -- the air, the water, life.

One gram of depleted uranium releases more than 12,000 alpha particles per second. When depleted uranium is inhaled as very fine radioactive dust, it enters the blood stream and is carried throughout the body. Because it is nearly insoluble it stays in the blood or lodges in the tissues, organs, and bones of the body. The alpha particles that are released from these "hot particles" tear through the cells and membranes like nuclear bullets and dump huge amounts of energy like nuclear bombs destroying the immune system, nervous system, muscles, and the brain. The radiation slowly kills the cells that make life possible and Gulf War Syndrome, a complex of diseases, slowly kills the soldier.

It mutilates the unborn, causing birth defects. There were horrible birth defects in babies born after the Gulf War without eyes, brains, organs, arms, and legs. In a study by the Veterans Administration [1], of 251 Gulf War veterans' families in Mississippi, 67 per cent of the children conceived and born after the war had diseases and defects rated severe. The Iraqi children born with birth defects [2] are like the children of the Gulf War veterans... "the tiny victims of Desert Storm" [3].

Dr. Rokke and his Army team of experts were sent to the Nevada Test Site to blow up Abrams tanks with depleted uranium and study the radioactivity around the tanks. The team was given "mop suits" with masks as protection from the depleted uranium dust. What they didn't know, and the Department of Energy didn't tell them, is that air filters don't work for very fine particles -- they go right through the mask filters and into the lungs. With the best HEPA filters, 28 million particles 0.1 micron in diameter pass into the lungs in a 24 hour period [4]. One billion particles that size would fill the period at the end of this sentence. Doug Rokke's cataracts and kidney problems are typical of Gulf War Syndrome. During a weeklong speaking tour we did together in January, I noticed his difficulty breathing and extreme fatigue. He complained of no feeling in his fingers and severe pain in his joints.

Captain Terry Riordan, a Canadian Gulf War veteran who "died officially of Gulf War Syndrome" in 1999, gave his body for research. When he went off to war his eyes were hazel. His wife told me they turned bright blue when he came back, then gray, then nearly opaque before he died. High levels of depleted uranium were measured in his bones, tissues and his brain. He had cancer in his bones. Her house was burglarized while she was testifying before a legislative committee about her husband's death. His medical records which indicated he had high levels of depleted uranium in his body were stolen.

In the Pentagon's fiery crucibles of war, they have knowingly failed to protect the Doug Rokke's, Terry Riordans and hundreds of thousands of soldiers -- in Viet Nam, in the Gulf War, and in future conflicts. The use of depleted uranium in the Gulf War, breaking a 46-year taboo against the use of radiological weapons in combat [4], has created a military and legal precedent. This is a deliberate strategy to make the use of nuclear weapons more probable in future conflicts [5].

But there's more on the drawing board... Donald Rumsfeld is dumping billions of dollars into the "research furnaces of federal laboratories and private universities" [6] across the U.S. to create 'super soldiers'. The research to create drugs and electromagnetic brain zaps is directed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) under five-time fellon John Poindexter. This 'war fighter enhancement program' will involve "injecting young men and women with hormonal, neurological and genetic concoctions; implanting microchips and electrodes in their bodies to control their internal organs and brain functions; and plying them with drugs that deaden some of their normal human tendencies -- the need for sleep, the fear of death, the reluctance to kill their fellow human beings" [6].

But who are the real terrorists? Those who want to turn U.S. soldiers into mindcontrolled, drugged-up mutants to send off to mindless imperial wars portray themselves as "patriots", "noble leaders", and "Christians". And there are those of us who wish to honor the men and women fighting these wars -- like patriots Doug Rokke and Terry Riordan. Because we oppose the greedy, rapacious elite, we are the "traitors", the "anti-war agitators", the "enemy of democracy". What I like the most is that there are more and more of us... this is a war [7] we've seen too many times.

Il pentagono ha annunciato che " Shock and awe " è la strategia per la seconda guerra del golfo, con il lancio di 10 volte la quantità di bombe e di munizioni utilizzate nella prima. E 10 volte la quantità di uranio impoverito?
Oggi più di 400 tonnellate di polvere e di frammenti di uranio impoverito sono rimasti sui campi di battaglia dell'Iraq, 40 tonnellate in Kosovo e Serbia e 1000 tonnellate in Afghanistan. Quanto di questo uranio impoverito è tornato a casa nei corpi dei nostri veterani come Doug Rokke -- uccidendoli lentamente e mutilandoli? Quanto sta uccidendo e mutilando la gente dell'Iraq, i bambini dell'Iraq ed il futuro dei figli non ancora nati della gente irachena?
Ed ora lo stiamo facendo di nuovo, rendendolo 10 volte peggiore? Che cosa succederà ai nostri soldati questo volta?
La radiazione non rispetta confini. Trasportata dal vento durante il bombardamento in Kosovo, è stata captata da rilevatori dell'aria sia in Ungheria che in Grecia. I livelli nell'aria cambiano con le stagioni nel Kuwait. L'uranio impoverito dura per sempre. Il periodo radioattivo è di 4,5 miliardi di anni. Decade in isotopi molto più radioattivi dell'uranio, come il radon. L'uranio impoverito continua a dare... e continua a uccidere. È l'arma perfetta affinché il Pentagono uccida la gente e distrugga le cose.
Il problema è che non si può pulire via... e nel tempo rende la sopravvivenza di ogni forma di vita impossibile. Si trasforma in una guerra omicida contro la terra -- l'aria, l'acqua, la vita. Un grammo di uranio impoverito libera più di 12.000 particelle alfa al secondo. Quando l'uranio impoverito è inalato come polvere radioattiva molto fine, entra in circolazione nel sangue ed è trasportato in tutto il corpo. Poiché è quasi insolubile, rimane nell'aria o si infiltra nei tessuti, negli organi e nelle ossa del corpo.
Le particelle di alfa che sono liberate da queste "particelle calde" attraversano lacerando le cellule e le membrane come pallottole e scaricano enormi quantità di energia come bombe nucleari che distruggono il sistema immunitario, il sistema nervoso, i muscoli ed il cervello. La radiazione uccide lentamente le cellule che permettono la vita e la Sindrome della Guerra del Golfo, un complesso di malattie, lentamente uccide i soldati. Mutila i feti, causando i difetti di nascita. Ci sono stati orribili difetti di nascita nei bambini nati dopo la Guerra del Golfo: senza occhi, cervello, organi, braccia e piedi.
In uno studio realizzato dalla Veterans Administration [1], su 251 famiglie dei veterani della Guerra del Golfo del Mississippi, il 67 per cento dei bambini concepiti e nati dopo la guerra hanno avuti malattie e difetti considerati gravi. I bambini iracheni nati con i difetti di nascita [2] sono come i bambini dei veterani della Guerra del Golfo... "le minuscole vittime della tempesta del deserto" [3]. Il Dott. Rokke e la sua squadra di esperti dell'esercito sono stati inviati al Nevada Test Site per far esplodere carriarmati Abrams con uranio impoverito e studiare la radioattività sviluppata. La squadra è stata dotata di abiti di protezione e mascherine per difendersi dalla polvere di uranio impoverito. Ciò che non sapevano e che il Dipartimento per l'Energia non ha detto loro è che i filtri dell'aria non funzionano per le particelle molto fini -- passano direttamente nei filtri della mascherina e vanno dritti ai polmoni. Con i migliori filtri HEPA, 28 milioni di particelle di 0,1 micron di diametro passano nei polmoni in un periodo di 24 ore. I problemi delle cataratte e del rene di Doug Rokke sono tipici della Sindrome della Guerra del Golfo.
Durante un week end trascorso insieme in gennaio, ho notato la sua difficoltà a respirare e un affaticamento estremo. Si lamentava di non avere sensibilità nelle dita e dolore acuto alle articolazioni. Il capitano Terry Riordan, un veterano canadese della Guerra del Golfo "morto ufficialmente della Sindrome della Guerra del Golfo " in 1999, ha donato il suo corpo alla scienza per la ricerca. Quando era partito per la guerra i suoi occhi erano nocciola. Sua moglie mi ha detto che quando è tornato erano cambiati in un azzurro luminoso, poi sono diventati grigi, quindi quasi opachi prima che morisse. Livelli elevati di uranio impoverito sono stati misurati nelle sue ossa, nei tessuti e nel cervello: gli è stato riscontrato un cancro alle ossa.
La loro casa è stata scassinata mentre lei stava testimoniando di fronte ad una commissione d'inchiesta sulla morte di suo marito: i resoconti dei medici che indicavano l'elevato livello di uranio impoverito in tutto il corpo sono state rubate.

Nell'ardente prova del fuoco della guerra promossa dal Pentagono, non sono riusciti deliberatamente a proteggere i Doug Rokkes, i Terry Riordans e centinaia dei migliaia di soldati -- nel Vietnam, nella Guerra del Golfo e nei conflitti futuri.
L'uso di uranio impoverito nella Guerra del Golfo, che infrange un tabù durato 46 anni contro l'uso delle armi radiologiche in combattimento [4], ha generato un precedente militare e legale. Questa rappresenta una strategia intenzionale, per rendere l'uso delle armi nucleari più probabile in conflitti futuri [5].
Ma c'è dell'altro... Donald Rumsfeld sta buttando miliardi dei dollari "nelle fornaci di ricerca dei laboratori federali e delle università private" [ 6 ] in tutti gli Stati Uniti per generare 'i soldati eccellenti '. La ricerca per generare le droghe e gli "zaps" elettromagnetici del cervello è diretta dal Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) sotto la guida di John Poindexter.
Questo 'programma di miglioramento del combattente di guerra' consisterà nell' "iniettare in giovani donne e uomini miscele ormonali, neurologiche e genetiche; impiantare microchips ed elettrodi nei loro corpi per controllare i loro organi e le funzioni del cervello; manipolarli con droghe che abbassano la soglia di naturali bisogni o tendenze umane -- la necessità del sonno, il timore della morte, la riluttanza di uccidere esseri umani loro simili"[6]. Ma chi sono i terroristi reali?
Coloro che desiderano trasformare i soldati degli Stati Uniti in mutanti drogati e etero-controllati per spedirli in guerre imperialiste senza senso si ritraggono come "patrioti", "capi nobili" e "cristiani".
E ci sono quelli di noi che desiderano onorare gli uomini e le donne che combattono queste guerre -- come i patrioti Doug Rokke e Terry Riordan.
Poiché ci opponiamo all'elite ingorda ed avida siamo "traditori", gli "agitatori pacifisti", i "nemici della democrazia".
Ciò che mi piace moltissimo è che siamo sempre di più... questa è una guerra [7] che abbiamo visto troppe volte.
