Outrageous Comments by Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Blaming Israel for Terrorist Attacks

Posted: May 7, 2004

Crown Prince 'Abdullah Bin 'Abed al-'Aziz told a gathering of leading government officials and academics in Jeddah that “Zionists” and “followers of Satan” are to blame for recent terrorist attacks in the kingdom, in particular the May 1st terrorist attack on foreign oil workers in Yanbu that killed 6 people and injured 25.

The following is a translation of the statement made by Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah:

"... You know who is behind all of this... Zionism is behind it - that was clarified. It was clarified to us, and I say that it is not 100 percent, but 95 percent, that the Zionism's hands are behind what happened. Unfortunately, they misled some of our sons....But we are certain that Zionism is behind everything. That is what was proved. I am not saying 100 percent but 95 percent..." (translation from Ar-Riyadh, May 2, 2004).

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal on May 4th appeared to echo his brother’s remarks, telling reporters in Jeddah that the attack in Yanbu, which has shaken the oil industry, has fed into “a Zionist campaign” to shake the Saudi monarchy. The Foreign Minister claimed that one of the Saudis linked to the attack was believed to be the follower of two well-known London-based Saudi dissidents, Saad al-Fagih and Mohammed al-Masari, who he claims are financed by Israel. Fagih quickly denied such allegations telling a Newsweek reporter that “this shows how desperate and hopeless they are” and that “this is like saying George Bush is sponsoring bin Laden.”
