Il sistema di intercettazione Echelon e' gia' stato usato in passato ai danni di aziende europee per favorire aziende statunitensi. Ora si scopre che anche SWIFT (sistema mondiale di telecomunicazioni finanziarie) e' sotto l'osservazione del governo USA. Nascono tra le aziende europee forti resistenze a queste pratiche che violano i diritti civili e la competizione economica.

In June, it was reported that the US government was having the SWIFT system monitored. Now, resistance is forming in Europe against this kind of data espionage. In addition to the common argument that this monitoring only helps trace the flow of funds for terrorist organizations, there are also concerns about economic espionage. The Independent State Data Protection Center of Schleswig-Holstein (ULD) is looking into whether this monitoring constitutes a violation of bank secrecy and data protection.
