Forbidden demo in Teheran
On the 9th of July 1999, mercinaries of the Iranian regime entered the
university of Tehran attacked people and smashed buildings. 4 years laters the
revolt in the university seems to be unstoppable. For this reason the government
has forbidden all demonstrations planned for the anniversary of the revolt in
Tehran. Police have received orders to stop the arrival of trains and buses
from every area of Iran into Tehran by any means.
People from many cities joined their struggles against the Regime with some
university students and gas and textiles workers. One protest was supported by
the US government interested in getting its hands on other strategic interests
in the Middle East.
The protests are also against the policies of privatisation of the schools and
universities that the reformist government of Khatami are promoting.
Neoliberalist reforms not so dissimilar to the politics of the US and global
financial institutions.
In France 20 Iranian activists from the National Council where detained on the
charge of “fomenting terrorism”, this link the struggle between students and
workers in Iran have been join by european exiles also suffering from
unjustified repression.

TRAVAILLE/FIAT |

Thing.net closes down?
Pushed by Dow Chemical, Verio, the internet provider held by the japanese enterprise Ntt, decided to withdraw the concession to the server Thing.net, starting from feb.28 on.
Thing.net is a server that hosts since more than ten years hundreds of art sites
belonging to individuals and institutions (like the one of Moma Museum of modern art di New York),
publisher's sites, sites that make alternative information (like Autonomedia) and activism.
What raises the interest of the chemical giant is The Yes men's site, a group that
documents and disveal sick economic mechanisms behind neo-liberalism. The Yes Men
dedicated part of their site to the multinational Dow Chemical, that recently acquired
Union Carbide, in-famous due to the Bhopal disaster (India).
The web page, www.dow-chemical.com, was a fake, a parody of the official site of
the multinational. This web page is now hosted @ another url, while www.dow-chemical.org
points directly to the official Dow Chemical site: the powerful giant made such pressure on the
company that delivers the domains that it could 'absorb' it back under its own home page.
The immediate multiplication of mirrors of the indicted web pages led Verio to the
decision of interrupting anyway the contract with Thing.net, in order to avoid itself
an accusation for the violation of the Digital Millennium
Copyright Act [pdf file], which imposes
specific limits to internet providers in case of violation of copyright.
Thing.net already reacted, organizing a fund raising campaign via PayPal. Its goal is to achieve
more than 4000 IP numbers from American registry for internet
numbers. The IP will be distributed
on a number of broad band providers (15 or more), so that it won't be possible
to close down a network on the basis of a simple complaint anymore.
The cost of the whole operation of acquiring IP is estimated to be around 25.000 dollars.
Then Thing.net will try to charge Verio for violation of the right of free speech.

No tanks!
War is approaching: italian minister Martino illegally guaranteed the use of state (public) infrastructures to allow american army to move their weapons, vehicles and personnel.
On 21st february the first trains left.
Protests immediately began to stop the trains, which from Ederle (near Vicenza) were bound for US military base at Camp Derby, near Pisa.
Today, 22nd february, despite intimidations and threats, the actions of protest are growing in other towns: Grisignano di Zocco, Campo di Marte (Padua) where a train was blocked for hours and a second train were expected but it changed its route; the following train was stopped in Verona for half an hour, until police charged on demonstrators. Another block was organized in Porto San Pancrazio but it didn't succeed. Then Brescia, Bologna and Fornovo (near Parma), where a hundred of people were dispersed by the police. In Pisa there were two demos, the first in the morning at the military airport, the second in the afternoon with 600 people from the station to the centre of the city.
Activists form all Italy are now heading to Pisa. Police is already in control of the station of San Rossore and activists are converging to Migliarino Pisano station. They have blocked it after being charged by the police and now they are waiting for a train from Parma.
The British consulate was occupied in Torino and other actions are expected also in Ferrara, where 1,000 people were strongly charged, and in Udine. At Magdalena isle near Sardinia 1,000 activists were roughly cleared out by police.
updates 24feb:
1:50 pm - Another passengers train blocked between Verona and Mantova
1:30 pm - The train pass on at Verona station
12:45 am - Passengers trains blocked between Padua and Monselice
12:25 am - A train left Grisignano towards Verona
8:46 am - Operations of loading are going to be done
7:15 am - Operations of loading on trains begin in Grisignano
5:30 am - Situation appears to be quiet in Grisignano
updates 23feb:
Trains of death have remained stationary today due to the hardly manageable public disorder situation. The trains of death leaving from Grisignano (Vicenza) towards the usa base of Camp Darby are 26. All the trains should arrive to Camp Darby by Thursday 27: according to the schedule eight trains should have already been arrived to Camp Darby, but in fact only four of this trains have arrived thanks to blocks and civil mobilization.
Following appointments:
from tomorrow: trainstopping along the whole railway section;
2-26: demonstration in Florence;
3-8: national demonstration to Camp Darby;
The substantial delay of those killing trains and the extension of the disagreement and accusation against those trains showed the effectiveness of the mobilization of hundreds of people during the last 48 hours: from tomorrow we must keep on stopping and slowing down the 22 remaining trains of death and every other stage that leads Italy to a future of war and destruction, even from the territories that are not crossed by the trains routes: it is necessary a massive and extended mobilization.
12:30 am - The situation in Grisignano appears to be quiet.
11:00 am - Harbours workers are ready to block ships.
10:00 am - From today, trains leaving Ederle are under military law.
updates 22feb:
11:10pm - The train arrived at Camp Darby. Blocks will continue tomorrow.
10:50pm - At the arrival of the train in Migliarino policemen cleared out the protesters.
9:40pm - A train transporting passengers arrived at Migliarino Pisano station. It was blocked from inside. The conductor refused to go on in solidarity with the demostrators, but the police forced him to continue the train route.
