Sabra e Shatila: 20 years later
Two thousand people, palestinians syrians and lebaneses, living in the
refugees camps of Sabra e Shatila, in the Beirut outbound, were victims of
an actual slautering in 1982.
The massacre went on for three days, from the 16th to the 18th of september,
carried by the pro-israeli militias, with the open logistic support of
Tel-Aviv army, that just started its occupation of west Beirut.
Few days before the multinational forces, that should have protect the
refugees camps after the departure of the palestinians fedayn, prematurely
withdraw. Imposing the israeli commitment not to enter the western side o
the city was in their o.n.u. mandate.
Twenty years after not only nobody payed for this crime, but the victims
still didn't get buried decently. One thousand bodys disappeard. The largest
collective grave, left as a wretched dusty land, is situated by the camp
entrance.
The prime minister Ariel Sharon, already recognized "not directly"
responsable of those tragic facts by an israeli inquiry commission, has been
accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity, in front of a belgique court, by 28 persons between palestinians and lebaneses.
On june 26 2002 the Brussels court rejected this act, thanks also to
mysterious murders of key witnesess.
Untill today nothing has changed. To the contrary the palestinians
refugees's conditions are getting even more desperate.
On september 16 2002 an international delegation will gather in Beirut to
remember, after 20 years, the Sabra and Chatila massacre, pushing to find a
just solution to the palestinian refugees issue, in respect of their right
to return.
