[multilanguage] >>> behind the bars
by imc italia Friday, Jul. 23, 2004 at 12:55 PM mail:

continues the text of the feature Behind the bars (11 january 2004)

That name comes up for the first time and is a novelty when it comes to previously known cases of explosive packages.
Seven explosive books were destined to Romano Prodi [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ], President of BCE - Central European Bank (Banca Centrale Europea) Jean Claude Trichet, the director of Europol Jeuergen Storbeck, to the seat of Eurojust [ 1 ] [ 2 ] (the super attorney`s office that coordinates at European level the judicial activity of the member States and has it`s seat at Aja), to the offices of the leader of the Popular European Party Hans Poettering [ 1 ] [ 2 ], to the leader of the Spanish populars in Bruxxelles Jose Ignacio Salafranca [ 1 ], to the euro-parliamentary labourist Gary Titley[ 1 ].
Many associate the exploding books to the pots bombs that have inflamed the garbage bins and suppose that they have been sent by the same "federal informal anarchists".
The Italian Anarchist Federation (Federazione Anarchica Italiana, FAI) has accused in a bulletin [ ita ] [ en ] those who have written the letter of wanting to create confusion associating the letters FAI to a practice that they do not share.
Police forces of diverse countries have been organizing together and a hunting campaign starts in Italy.
The government is even taking in consideration an ulterior extension of the norm (270 bis) that regards subversive associations and the police is centralizing the investigations aimed at filing, identifying and catching in criminal activity many persons from the so called anarcho-insurrectionist area, who were already called in question in other occasions amongst which the attacks on the pylons and repeaters that were signed with phrases of solidarity to Marco Camenisch, investigated by attorney`s offices of Milan, Turin, Genova, Bologna, Pisa, Rome and Naples as well as the bomb that was found in full center of Bologna, tied to three envelopes that were sent as always from Bologna and addressed to Tg4, Benetton at Treviso and barracks of Carabinieri in San Fruttuoso, Genova in the days of G8 in Genova 2001 [1].
Starting that same year there was talk of the Cells Agains the Capital ("Cellule contro il Capitale"), of The Prison (Il Carcere), of Prisoners and their Cells, known in Spain as a Celula contra el Capitale, la Carcel, Los Carcelaros y las Celdas who signed explosive or inflaming packages sent to Italian and Spanish sites: Rome, Milan and all over Spain - from Iberia to El Pais, including the Spanish highschool Cervantes in Rome.
The "Brigate 20th July" claimed responsability in December of 2002 for the handcrafted bomb that exploded in the gardens next to the Genova Police station and in February of that same year another strange harmful device of the same type that exploded on a motor bike near Viminale.
"International Solidarity" ("Solidarietą internazionale") claimed from `98 and `99 the explosive packages sent in Milan, first to the baracks of the Carabinieri Musotto and later to the Milan Cathedral (Duomo).
The perquisitions concerning the exploding books from Christmas 2003 start in Bologna, the city from which they - according to the investigators - were sent, and the attorney`s office of Bologna decides to block all the packages and sheafs of paper directed to institutions and offices of the European Union.
The government and the official media amplify the question making it all appear as events of the same calibre as the worst subversive crimes in history.
The integrated system of European police [Europol] (which the European Union site describes as a form of "cooperation between Member States in the areas of preventing and fighting serious forms of international organised crime, including terrorism and drug trafficking"), adds those Christmass time explosions to the chapter on antiterrorism of which it occupies itself since 1999.
In Semptember 2001 they wrote a report on "Terrorist activity in the European Union: situation and trends" where there was a fear that the "anarchist terrorism" might "rise again" on European level.
The control system put in motion and the alarmism created by the threat to security have not prevented the exploding books from arriving to the destinations . Regarding this there has been a request of clarifications to the Minister Pisanu, who has responded the 8th of January to the Chamber [Report].
The fact becomes a pretext for an ulterior repressive wave , made of blows of decrees and perquisitions, that trades in the space left for private liberties and political confrontation for security.
